Drifter Types
The Lagrangian Drifter Laboratory supports nine standard drifter types. Go to the linked pages for specifications and technical details for each type of drifter.
Surface Velocity Program (SVP) Drifter: Measures sea surface temperature and ocean currents at 15 m depth.
Surface Velocity Program Barometer (SVPB) Drifter: Measures sea surface temperature, sea level barometric pressure, and ocean currents at 15 m depth.
Surface Velocity Program Salinity (SVPS) Drifter: Measures sea surface temperature, sea surface salinity, and ocean currents at 15 m depth. Also available configured with a barometer option.
Directional Wave Spectra Drifter (DWSD)™: Measures 3D wave spectrum and sea surface temperature.
Directional Wave Spectra Barometer Drifter (DWSBD)™: Measures 3D wave spectrum, sea surface temperature, and sea level barometric pressure.
MiniMet (SVPBW) Drifter: Measures sea surface temperature, sea level barometric pressure, sea level wind speed and direction, and 15 m ocean currents.
Autonomous Drifting Ocean Station (ADOS)™: Measures sea surface temperature, sea level barometric pressure, and sea level wind speed and direction. It has a tether that is up to 300 m in length, with sensors interspaced that measure temperature and depth.
CODE Drifter: Measures sea surface temperature, sea surface salinity, and XYZ currents.
River Drifter™: Measures sea surface temperature, sea surface salinity, bottom depth, XYZ currents, and collects acoustic Doppler current profiles.
