The Lagrangian Drifter Laboratory’s capabilities serve NOAA and the nation by creating customized drifters and sensor packages for global ocean monitoring, measuring, and forecasting. These customized drifters and sensor packages are consistent with the other elements within the Global Drifter Array and thus contribute to it.

Groups that need to capture additional ocean variables beyond those provided by the Global Drifter Array can subscribe to the GDP. They should contact us about their specific program requirements, and we will work to assemble the optimal sensor package(s).

This new Subscription Drifter Service aims to meet user needs not fulfilled by the Global Drifter Array, while also expanding the reach and utility of the GDP.
