Bio: Martha Schönau

Dr. Martha Schönau is a postdoc with the Lagrangian Drifter Laboratory. Dr. Schönau received a B.S. in Physics from University California San Diego (UCSD) in 2006. She spent two-years as U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Namibia, teaching math and science, before returning to research to earn a M.S. in Physics from Portland State University (PSU). In 2017, Dr. Schönau graduated from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), with a PhD in Oceanography. Her graduate research focused on underwater glider observations of water mass transport and mixing in the western tropical Pacific. Her interests include large-scale ocean circulation, tropical oceanography, mesoscale and submesoscale ocean variability, mixing, and the impact of upper-ocean variability on underwater acoustics. As part of her postdoctoral work, Dr. Schönau is investigating the evolution of the wave field under hurricanes.
